Andranik Hakobyan is the new World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Welterweight champion after winning the vacant title on Saturday, December 11.

At the TrafoHalle in Baden, Switzerland, Hakobyan scored a wide unanimous decision over previously undefeated Italian Alessandro Fersula.

Judges Armin Bracher and Monika Hofmann scored it 100-90, while judge Marcel Werder had it 99-91, giving one round to Fersula.

Hakobyan, born in Armenia but now a Swiss national, improved his professional record to 16-1-2 (6). Fersula falls to 6-1 (1).

Also on Saturday, at the Boxclub Home of Champions in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, Germany, Romanian Victor Ionascu won the vacant WBF Intercontinental Super Welterweight title.

Frankfurt-based Ionascu scored a sixth round technical knockout, when Hungarian co-challenger Oszkar Fiko could not continue due to a ruptured eardrum.

With the victory, Ionascu took his professional record to 10-1 (7), while Fiko is now 34-34-1 (17).
