Winning the Intercontinental
crown on Saturday could bring
him closer to a crack at WBF
World Champion Sebastien Madani
from France, but the 36-year-old
is bound to get a stern
challenge from Ruiz who is ten
years his junior and a bigger
puncher.
For Mike Ruiz, 16-7 (8), it will
be his biggest fight to date.
Luck was not on his side when he
dropped two razor-thin split
decisions to Daniel Sostre and
Martin Wright for the New York
State Welterweight title in 2009
and 2011, and when he knocked
Wright down in the first round
of a rematch and had him hanging
on for dear life but failed to
put him away before losing
another decision for a minor
belt.
In his most recent outing Ruiz,
born in Puerto Rico but fighting
out of Long Island, New York,
travelled to the Dominican
Republic to knock out Basilio
Silva in two rounds this past
March. The Delgado-encounter
will be his first
title-opportunity at Super
Welterweight, and he will surely
be looking to make the most of
it.
Tickets for the Paul Delgado vs.
Mike Ruiz WBF Intercontinental
Super Welterweight title fight
on July 21 at the Buckhead
Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, is
