On Saturday June 12, in Krynica
Zdroj, Poland, World Boxing
Federation Cruiserweight
champion Pawel Kolodziej
retained his title with a
knockout in the twelfth round
over game last minute substitute
Parfait Amougui Amougou from
France. Cameroon-born Amougou
stepped in when American
Nicholas Iannuzzi had to
withdraw just days before the
fight.
The defending champion started
the bout looking a little tense,
and seemed surprised by the
aggressive Frenchman’s attacks.
Amougou came to win, but in the
third round Kolodziej began to
find his range and kept Amougou
at bay most of the time with
sharp combinations.
While the challenger never
stopped trying, Kolodziej was
firmly in charge from round four
on, and had great success with
his straight punches. He was
however forced to keep active,
as Amaugou was constantly
looking for openings and ways to
get back into the fight. |
