Big Chinese Heavyweight hope Zhang Junlong recorded his young careers most impressive result on Sunday November 30 in Wuhan, China, defeating American Jason Gavern to win the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental title.

Nicknamed “The Dragon King”, Junlong entered the ring as the reigning WBF Asia Pasific champion, dominated the experienced and usually tough Gavern, and scored one knockdown in round three before referee Wang Yuejjin stopped the onslaught and declared the local man a TKO winner.

Few other opponent, including big names such as Deontay Wilder, Oleg Maskaev, Denis Boytsov and Steve Cunningham, have managed to defeat Gavern more convincingly, and Junlong is proving that he could be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

With the victory, the new WBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion improved his undefeated record to 8-0 (8) since turning pro in October 2012, while Gavern, who a year ago defeated living legend James “Lights Out” Toney, falls to 28-18-4 (11).

WBF President Howard Goldberg was present in China, along with former WBF World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield, to award Junlong with his new belt, and was impressed with his performance, saying:

"Junlong is a big guy, but he has a lot of skills and clearly a hard punch. Jason Gavern is not an easy man to get rid of, but Junlong did it, and it will be interesting to follow his future development.”
